Let the Christmas cooking start with a drink. This is delicious and fresh, and should not be thought of as a cold mulled wine. Orgeat syrup is made with almonds combined with orange-flower or rose water. Monin and Teisseire are good brands.
Combine the Port, wine, juices and orgeat syrup. Stir in the sugar until it has dissolved. Add crushed ice to six glasses and pour over the wine cocktail. Stir briefly, then pass over with a dusting of nutmeg and slip in a thin slice of lemon.
